Adverse local tissue reaction is when metal particles are released by the metal components rubbing against one another which then causes damage to bone and/or tissue. Adverse local tissue reaction can lead to: metallosis, necrosis, osteolysis, pseudo tumor formation, and pain.
What should I do if I am not sure whether I was implanted with a Rejuvenate or ABG II modular Neck Hip stem?
If you are not sure if you were implanted with either a Rejuvenate or ABG II Modular Neck Hip stem you should contact the surgeon who performed your hip replacement as they should have a record of the implant used in your surgery.
Should I see my doctor if I’m not experiencing any symptoms?
If you know that you received a Stryker Rejuvenate or ABG II hip implant, speaking with your surgeon is prudent. Some effects of the implants may not be easy to recognize at first, such as metallosis. If you have any concerns about your device or recovery, meeting with your surgeon can only help. If your implant is working well and you are not experiencing and adverse effects, you may simply need to discuss future follow-up to ensure that it continues to work well.
What type of testing will my doctor do to determine if my hip implant is functioning properly?
To evaluate your hip implant, your surgeon may do blood tests or imaging, including X-rays, MRIs, or Ultrasounds. Other testing may be done to evaluate how yours is functioning. A revision surgery may be required. Repeat follow up examinations may also be conducted, even if the initial testing shows normal findings.
What is Stryker offering patients?
Stryker has announced on their website that they are partnering with Broadspire Services, Inc., a third-party claims administrator, to reimburse patients who were affected by recalled implants. They have stated that they will reimburse patients for “testing, treatment, revision surgery, if necessary, and other costs relating to this voluntary recall.” However, to ensure that you are properly compensated for not only your health costs, but also other damages (lost wages, loss of consortium, etc.) it is best that you speak with an experienced attorney to protect your rights if you have been affected.
Are other hip implants covered by this lawsuit?
Currently, Stryker’s voluntary recall only affects the Rejuvenate and ABG II Modular-Neck systems. While other metal-on-metal hip implants can pose the same kinds of risks, this multidistrict litigation (MDL) is specific to the two recalled implants.
