It is important that all patients who have received a Rejuvenate or ABG II Modular Neck Hip stem follow up with their surgeon even if they are not experiencing any symptoms. If you are unsure whether or not you received a Stryker Rejuvenate or ABG II implant, consulting your medical or insurance papers may provide you with more information. You can also speak with your surgeon about the device used in your surgery.
It is crucial to follow up with your surgeon if you or a loved one have experienced any of the complications associated with these implants, such as:
- pain in the new hip joint,
- popping in the joint,
- mobility limitations, or
- infections
Even asymptomatic patients, those with mild or no symptoms, have tested positive for elevated metal ion levels or been diagnosed with adverse local tissue reactions (ALTR). Metal ions are released whenever an implant moves and can cause serious health problems if they enter the blood stream. ALTR is a condition where tissue surrounding the implant becomes inflamed or begins to die because the small chips of metal from the implant have become lodged in it. Both of these can become serious health problems when left undetected or untreated.
Your surgeon may do testing to ensure your hip is functioning properly and that you are not having negative side effects, such as ALTR.
Protecting your health is the most important step you can take.
